About my Master Class

cocktail-master-class

I love sharing my passion for craft cocktails with...well...anyone who’ll listen. We’re already in our second decade of a phenomenon that could be described as nothing other than a
Craft Cocktail Renaissance and I couldn’t be more excited to Spread The Word!! I want YOU to drink better. Here’s what it looks like:

You contact me and we discuss what kinds of cocktails you would like me to teach your group. We’ll cover history (both of the ingredients and the cocktail), tools and technique, even glassware and garnishes. Once we agree on a theme (see packages below for ideas), I will come up with a shopping list for you which will include all the alcohol, bitters, sugars, produce, and ice. You will need to purchase these items. I will bring all the tools and glassware. Each class covers four cocktails and runs from an hour and a half to two hours.

Just Call Me Old Fashioned

Includes a history of the drink and its ingredients. We will make a standard Old Fashioned cocktail and three variations. I will bring a recipe book for each member of the class to take with them.

Stirred (not Shaken…)

This class will delve into the magical combination of spirit and (the often misunderstood) vermouth. We will cover the Manhattan, Martinez, Martini, and one other silky and stirred delight. I will go into the history of each drink, including a thorough talk on vermouth and other fortified and aromatized wines, and will bring a recipe book for everyone to take home.

I’m All Shook Up

This class will cover sours (spirit, sugar, citrus) and daisies (spirit, liqueur, citrus). I typically like to cover the Daiquiri (not frozen…), Pisco Sour, Margarita, and one other of your choosing (I’ll help you pick if you’re stuck). History and recipe books included.

Full Course
(liquid…) Meal

This class features cocktails that might go alongside each plate in a four-course meal. We’ll start with the Americano, a classic Italian Aperitivo. Then a spirituous and crisp Martini followed by a lush and boozy Boulevardier. We’ll round out the meal with a decadent Brandy Alexander. As always, I’ll keep you up to speed with the history of each drink and send you all home with a recipe book.

These are the most popular examples, but we can certainly discuss more “custom” options if that’s what you’re looking for.

I would highly recommend Thin Man Cocktails to anyone interested in craft and specialty cocktails. With bars being mostly shut down this past year, I thought this would be the perfect idea to bring the bar home for a fun night in so I signed up for the Stirred (not shaken) class. Rick made sure I was set up with all the proper tools and his knowledge and passion for cocktails made the class so informative and inspiring. I had such a positive experience I decided to sign up for the second All Shook Up class as well. This would be a great night in with a group of friends or even by yourself to further your knowledge and enjoy some delicious drinks! Highly recommend!!!!

Megan

My sister reached out to Rick to commission a bespoke cocktail for my bridal shower and it could not have been more perfect.  The ‘Megan’s Garden’ was the full package - delicious, aromatic, and perfectly matched the theme of the event and my personal style.  A truly complex, yet approachable cocktail; Rick created an incredible mix of liquors and custom-made syrups and finishing sprays, topped with my favorite champagne in a beautiful etched glass.  It truly evoked a garden on a warm spring’s day and the ingredients looked beautiful behind the bar, to boot!  I could not recommend Rick and his cocktails more for your next event.

I had been hosting annual whiskey dinners for years when someone suggested we change it up by bringing Rick into pair cocktails with the food instead. This was a few years ago and we haven't looked back since. Weeks in advance, Rick reviews the menu with me or the chef (sometimes I have it catered) and perfectly pairs a cocktail with each course.  The night of the dinner, he shows up with all his gear (including special glassware) and gets to work.  He then presents a cocktail as each course is served, complete with the origin story and reason for the pairing.  To say that the cocktails are unbelievably good would be an understatement.  And his courtesy and professionalism are top-shelf.  Rick Regan from Thin Man Cocktails will absolutely turn your evening into a memorable experience for you and your guests.

Darryl, Brotherly Grub BBQ, Accord NY

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Rick for a private Bourbon and Barbecue Dinner. I catered the food and Rick was commissioned to create the cocktails. From stemware to homemade bitters crafted to match their intended pairing, Rick’s attention to detail is truly unparalleled! After we discussed the menu, Rick went to work crafting the pairings. We met shortly before the event so that he could sample the food and put the finishing touches on his unique cocktails. I was blown away by how he was able to create a seamless progression of drinks that perfectly matched the different courses for the night. If you’re looking for someone with a passion for creating amazing drinks, Rick is your man!
